The significance of these pieces - individual figures from major projects - lies in the fact that each is a meaningful work in its own right. Small bronzes are sometimes misunderstood by the commercial art world as being marginal or incidental, with bronze, as a material, regarded as something belonging only to tradition. I see its value in the past, present and future and something that will always be used as a valid sculpting material. Each piece also supports my work and livelihood as a sculptor, whereas the major, public gallery pieces do not. The editions are, then, every bit as valid as the larger projects, with a lot of work, meaning and attention going into each individual figure.
